



As part of a two-day step-down training for selected community volunteers in Alimosho and Eti-Osa Local Government Areas of Lagos State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Operations Office concluded a capacity-building workshop organized by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch. The training was conducted in collaboration with NEMA, LASEMA, and the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources to strengthen flood response, recovery, and resilience efforts in vulnerable communities.
NEMA officers delivered presentations on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Early Warning Systems, covering:
Core DRR concepts and frameworks
Transitioning from reactive to proactive disaster management
Enhancing community resilience through flood awareness
The role of Early Warning Systems in reducing casualties and property damage
The workshop equipped Red Cross volunteers with practical knowledge and skills to respond effectively to flood emergencies and support local resilience initiatives.
Participants also received training on key flood preparedness components such as hazard mapping, early warning and early action protocols, and risk and capacity assessments. By the end of the two-day workshop, the volunteers showed strong readiness to support flood preparedness, prevention, and response efforts in their communities.
