
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola Operations Office, has actively participated in a strategic workshop on Early Warning for Vulnerable Flood Communities held in Yola, Adamawa State. The workshop was organized by the Nigeria Red Cross Society in partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
The event brought together key stakeholders in the humanitarian and disaster risk reduction sectors, including representatives from the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA),Donors, Partners, community based organizations, traditional rulers, and local government authorities, among others. The goal of the workshop was to strengthen early warning mechanisms and community preparedness in flood prone areas across the state.
In his remarks, the Head of NEMA Yola Operations Office, Mr. Ladan Ayuba represented by Chief Search and Rescue Officer (CSARO) Yusuf Ibbi Attah, commended the Nigeria Red Cross and UNOCHA for the timely initiative, especially as Adamawa State enters the peak of the rainy season. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and timely information sharing in reducing the impact of floods on vulnerable populations.
The workshop featured technical sessions on flood forecasting, community mapping and preparedness planning aimed at enhancing the readiness of communities and response actors.
