
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been honoured with the award of “Most Responsive Emergency Response Agency” by Oriental News Nigeria, a Lagos-based online news platform.
The award was presented to the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, on Thursday, 24th July 2025, during the 2025 Annual Conference of the publication, held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The conference had as its theme: “Integrating Nigeria’s Gas Potentials into Strategic Energy Transition Initiatives.”
In her remarks, the Publisher of Oriental News Nigeria, Mrs. Yemisi Izoura, said the award followed a careful evaluation of NEMA’s outstanding performance in several key areas. These include effective coordination of stakeholders, promotion of disaster risk reduction strategies, timely disaster response and relief deployment, efficient communication during emergencies, and widespread sensitization and public awareness efforts.
The Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, was represented at the event by Mr. Manzo Ezekiel of the Agency’s Press Unit, who received the award on her behalf.
In a goodwill message delivered at the event, Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed gratitude to Oriental News Nigeria for the recognition and dedicated the award to the hardworking staff of NEMA, all emergency responders, and ordinary Nigerians who continue to display resilience, courage, and compassion in times of disasters.
She reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of leadership, transparency, and service delivery. She also emphasized NEMA’s resolve to remain proactive in disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response across the country.
