NEMA Flags Off 2025 Flood Preparedness and Response Campaign in Akwa Ibom State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched its 2025 National Preparedness and Response Campaign on flood and related disasters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The campaign began with a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor, Sen. Akon Etim Eyakenyi.

NEMA Team Lead, Mr. Joseph Ugwu, explained that the campaign aims to raise awareness, build resilience, and improve disaster response. He appreciated the partnership with the State Government and called for more support to strengthen SEMA.

At a stakeholder meeting held at Government House, Mr. Ugwu, representing the Director General of NEMA, emphasized the need for radical sensitization and community-level early warning systems. The Deputy Governor commended NEMA’s efforts and directed all Local Government Chairmen to form emergency committees in partnership with traditional rulers, pledging continued state support.

Mr. Igue Terungwa, in his presentation on climate predictions and flood outlooks, stressed the importance of active Local Emergency Management Committees.

Stakeholders from security agencies, ministries, traditional institutions, and emergency services participated in the event.

The campaign also featured community sensitization in Iboko, including demonstrations by the Fire Service and Nigerian Red Cross, and the donation of a first aid box to enhance local emergency response.
