Iyiola Isiaka Akande is the Zonal Coordinator, NEMA South West. Born on the 3rd of December, 1957 in Ibadan. He attended Islamic High School, Ibadan where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1977. In 1977/78 he had a stint with the then Western State Ministry of Trade, Industries and Cooperatives as a Cooperative Inspector after obtaining a Certificate in Cooperative Studies from the Cooperative College, Benin-City.
In 1979, he proceeded to the University of Calabar, Calabar for his B.Sc (Hons.) degree in Geography and Regional Planning, finishing in 1983
His work experience includes Management Position with the UAC of Nigeria Plc from October 1984 to March, 1987. In December 1987, Mr Akande joined the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as a Town Planning Officer II and rose to the Rank of Chief Town Planning Officer before joining the National Emergency Management Agency as an Assistant Director (Relief & Rehabilitation) in May, 2009.
His professional qualification include: a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree, University of Ibadan,1991; Member, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and Registered Member, Town Planners Registration Council, RTP.
Since assuming office as the Zonal Coordinator in the South West, Mr. Akande has been involved in effective coordination of other stakeholders in Disaster Management; he has also handled programmes, events and activities aimed at enhancing the execution of the Agency's Mission Statement of Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery of Disasters and disaster victims. Mr. Akande is married with children .
The office has the compliment of 33 staff whose functions cut across Planning, Research & Forecasting, Search & Rescue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Training, Accounts & Finance and Administration & Supply.
