6.0    ASSESMENTS

6.1    On the spot Assessment of the areas affected by the Flood/Rainstorms in six local Government Areas of Kogi State on 5th – 8th August, 2011

NEMA/NYSC Emergency Management Vanguard (EMV) Program

7.1    The Abuja Zonal Operations Office participated in the sensitization lectures in the four states under its purview in each of the three batches of the orientation camp activities for the year. These are FCT, Kogi, Kwara and Niger States. There was also recruitment and induction of Emergency Management Vanguards (EMVs) in the FCT, Kogi, Niger States and Kwara States respectively but only during the first batch which took place on the 25th March, 2011 and second batch which held on the 1st July, 2011. In the batch C only presentations of lectures were conducted in the camps on the 2nd December, 2011.

7.2   In the course of their service year the following activities were carried out by the EMVs.

7.3       A sensitization campaign was held in Divine Academy Secondary School Okene on 12th of May,     2011.

7.4       Sensitization awareness creation and training on Disaster Risk Reduction was held at Hill Side      Model School Suleja on Thursday 10th March 2011

7.5       Setting of sensitization bill board at the Minna Suleja express way, behind G.S.S Kantoma, Suleja,     Niger State.

Operation Eagle Eye:

In line with the Agency’s resolve to stem the carnage on the highways during the Yuletide, the Abuja Operations Office with the assistance of the Search and Rescue Department of the Head Office embarked on comprehensive campaign and monitoring of the activities of motorist and commuters along Abuja-Lokoja, Abuja-Kaduna and Abuja-Keffi Roads respectively during the Festive periods from 24th December to 6th January, 2011.

The aim of the exercise is to ensure free flow of traffic along the major highways, provide swift and timely response to victims of road crashes in collaboration with the Men and Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC being the lead Agency.
