NEMA Handovers Displaced Persons’ Camp in Warri to Delta State
… Displaced Persons Camp Moved to Hospital
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has today handed over the internally displaced Persons Camp in in Warri South-West Local Government to Delta State Government.
Also handed over were additional relief materials including foodstuffs, clothing, beddings, and cutleries amongst other items
It would be recalled that following the outbreak of crises between the Joint Task Force (JTF) and some Niger Delta militants in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South West Local Government Area that led to the displacement of citizens, NEMA established the camp after deploying its Zonal officers in South-South and South-East led by Mr. Martin L. Osuwah and Dr. Onimode A. Bandele respectively to cater for the immediate needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s).
At the initial stage in the camp various items were provided they included bags of Parboiled Rice, Beans, bags of Garri, ) Iodized Salt pieces of Blankets, Plastic Buckets, Plastic Spoon, pieces of Plastic Plates, Plastic Cups , Wax Print, bales of Children Wears, cartons of Bath Soap, Omo detergent, jerrycans of Vegetable Oil, Nylon Mats, Bath Towels and Foam Mattresses.
The Director General of NEMA, AVM Mohammed Audu-Bida (Rtd) was personally at the IDP camp to officially flag off the distribution in the company of the State Committee on Rehabilitation led by its Chairman Barrister Kingsley Otuaro.
After seeking the approval of Joint Task Force (JTF) in Warri, Audu-Bida also directed movement of relief materials to the remote creeks affected in the crisis. The materials were distributed in Opedebobor , Dobiyo, Ogborodo, Azama, Oporoza, Enekoroa, Igoba, Krutie and Kunukuruma communities.
The camp which was established at Emein Elementary School Ogbe-Ijoh, would now be relocated by the state government to the General Hospital Ogbe-Ijoh which is currently underutilized to provide more accommodation and allow children to resume academic work in the present camp which is a primary school.
NEMA through Martin L. Osuwah and Onimode handed over the camp and other relief materials to Barrister kingsley Otuaro, Chairman of Delta State Rehabilitation Committee in the presence of Mr. Peter Nkenchor, Secretary State Rehabilitation Committee; Dsp Ufot Ekim, Divisional Police Officer of Ogbe-Ijoh, Eghworo Ovocity Secretary Nigerian Red Cross Society Delta State and Joe Layabout representing State Security Service.
The agency and the State Rehabilitation Committee would soon undertake a post crisis assessment to determine the need analysis of the victims when the tide is clear.
