Air Vice Marshal MM Audu-Bida (rtd) , FSS, MSS, DSS, Psc+

Air Vice Marshal Audu-Bida (rtd), the Director-General of the National Emergency Management. Agency, NEMA was born on March 17, 1951, in Kaduna, he hails from Bida in Niger State. He attended the famous Government College Bida, from 1964-1968 where he obtained the West African School Certificate. He also obtained  the Higher School Certificate, HSC, between 1968-I970 from the same institution. 

It was while pursuing the HSC that he developed interest in the military. He formally enlisted in the Nigerian Armed Forces on July 2, 1973 as a Helicopter Pilot. He proceeded to the Oxford Air University for an Advanced Diploma from the Oxford Air University in 1975.
In 1976, he was in Germany for a Conversion Course on BO105. Barely two years after, AVM Audu-Bida (rtd) was in France for another Conversion Course; this time it was on Puma Helicopter, In 1979, he attended a Flight Safety, Accident and Investigation Course in Pakistan, He also attended a Flight Safety Officers Workshop in Portugal in 1985 as well as the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, 1987-1988. He was also in Russia, for the Instructor Pilot Course in 1999 and at the Air War College in the US, 2001-2002. The Director-General also attended two major international conferences, an International Conference on Militaries, Democracy and Securities in Suh-Saharan Africa in Abuja (1997) and an International Conference on Challenges on Peace Operations in the 21st Century, also in Abuja (2004).

A highly decorated Air Force Officer, AVM Audu-Bida (rtd) held many positions while in service, In 1981, he was the Group Safety Officer, Air Transport Group, Ikeja. He also commanded the 207 Wing and 79 Special Operations Group, Port Harcourt, 1985-1989 and served as a United Nations Military Observer in Iran/Iraq, 1989-1990, between 1990 and 1992, he was at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (Junior section), Jaji, as Directing Staff In 1993, he was posted to Sierra Leone as Commander, Nigerian Air Force Detachment, Lungi, he returned to Nigeria in 1991. He was promptly posted to the 301 Flying Training School, Kaduna as Group Operations Officer, In 1995, he was again posted to Operations Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Abuja as Senior Officer 1.

The following year AVM Audu-Bida (rtd) was posted to the Nigerian Air Force Camp, Abuja as Commander. He held that position until 1997 when he returned to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (Junior Section), Jaji as Director and Chief Instructor, He later acted as Director of Evaluation, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force Abuja, 1991-2000, Coordinator, Project Investigation Monitoring Team, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force Abuja, 2002-2003 and Senior Air Staff Officer, Nigerian Air Force Training Command Headquarters, Kaduna, 2002-2006 from which position he finally disengaged from the military.

Married with three children, AVM Audu-Bida (rtd) was decorated with Force Service Star, FSS, Meritorious Services Star, MSS, Defence Service Star, DSS, Pass Staff College, PSC+ and the USA Air War College. A widely traveled person, he loves farming, cars and walking. Apart from playing squash, he is an enthusiastic golfer.
